Squash is a particularly demanding game, in terms of stamina, skill and strength. Players looking to improve performance should start by working on developing overall aerobic fitness levels, in addition to enhancing strength and flexibility of muscles and joints. Good bone health is particularly important in a squash player as the ‘staccato’ nature of their movement around the court exerts heavy forces on the bones, especially those in the legs. Injury rates in squash are relatively high, and this risk increases when a player is fatigued, or is not fit enough to play at the attempted level or for the length of time required.
Training is vital to build up skills and fitness gradually, and adequate carbohydrate and protein in the diet is useful to provide essential muscle glycogen stores.
Be-well have developed a programme of nutrients especially for squash players, to be taken before, during and after exercise:
- The ‘before’ product package is designed to maximise the intake of carbohydrate prior to a major bout of exercise, utilising mainly long-chain glucose polymers.
- The ‘during’ product package is designed to maintain hydration during exercise whilst providing some energy in the form of a combination of carbohydrates.
- The ‘after’ product of package combines protein and carbohydrates to promote recovery, muscle resynthesis and growth.
Put the Be-well nutrition System for Sports and Fitness to the test. It could prove quite a hit.
