Most aerobic sports and activities (for example distance running or cycling) require endurance.
The endurance athlete’s priority is to ensure that glycogen stores are maximised both during training and before an event. Increasing the intake of carbohydrate is beneficial, especially for events lasting for longer than 90 minutes.
Dehydration should be avoided however, and this should be considered against the possible benefits of taking in extra carbohydrate during the activity.
